Graduate Women in Biomedical Engineering (GWBE)

Co-President -- 2016-Present

In 2016, a fellow graduate student and I co-founded GWBE at the University of Utah. GWBE aims to raise awareness of social disparities in our field and be a positive driving force for promoting equality and diversity in STEM. GWBE aims to create a productive, inclusive environment in which we can facilitate peer and faculty mentorship, career development opportunities with academic and industry professionals, and community outreach and research dissemination.

I am passionate about encouraging women to pursue scientific careers. I am honored to be featured as part of the 1 Million Women in STEM campaign, which aims to spotlight 1 million STEM women to provide visible role models and inspire the next generation of girls.

  • Fellowship Mentor -- NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Workshop (student-run), University of Utah -- Fall 2018, Fall 2019

      • Served as a one-on-one mentor for prospective NSF GRFP applicants. Provided feedback and guidance on their personal statements, research proposals, and overall application. One of three applicants were awarded.

  • Teaching Assistant -- Introduction to Image-Based Modeling (IIBM) Course, Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Utah -- Spring 2018, Spring 2019

      • Taught lectures and led labs on image filtering, image registration, and computational modeling of tissue stimulation. Responsible for grading and providing feedback on lab reports and final project reports.

  • Teaching Assistant -- Image-Based Biomedical Modeling (IBBM) Course, Scientific Computing & Imaging (SCI) Institute, University of Utah -- Jul 2017, Jul 2018

      • Led interactive lab activities on image processing, segmentation, and computational modeling of tissue stimulation. Helped develop and teach the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Track (2018).

  • Undergraduate Research Coordinator -- Comprehensive Arrhythmia Research & Management (CARMA) Center, University of Utah -- Sep 2014-Jul 2016

      • Developed and managed a cardiac MRI segmentation training program for undergraduate research assistants. Interviewed prospective undergraduates, provided technical training, provided guidance on funding applications from the university, and worked closely with the principal investigator(s) involved in their projects.
